Deon Johnson departed from this life to eternal life on March 20, 2024. He was born September 11, 1946 in Chattanooga, Tennessee as the fourth of five children born to Eddie James Johnson, Sr. and Emma Jean Johnson. He attended Chattanooga Public Schools and graduated from Howard High School, Class of 1965. Deon accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at the Westside Missionary Baptist Church in Chattanooga, TN where he sang in the youth choir. He later became a member of Greater Faith Temple Missionary Baptist Church in Chattanooga, TN.
He attended Western Kentucky Community and Technical College in Paducah, KY. During his early young adult years he resided in Los Angeles, California and later returned to Chattanooga. He was previously employed at Cumberland Case Company, Morrison's Cafeteria, Custom Bakery and a variety of restaurants in his work history before joining the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga where he worked in the Arena’s vendors and concessions services. Deon was proud of his tenure with UTC and remained there until his retirement.
Among those who preceded him in death included his parents, Eddie James Sr. and Emma Jean Johnson; brother Eddie James Johnson, Jr. , sister, Reinza L. Johnson, aunt, Mildred W. (William) Cotton, and brother-in-law, Herman Jackson.
He is survived by his sister, Sherrie Johnson Jackson and brother, Richard E. Johnson; three nieces Vanessa A. Jackson, Yolanda Jackson of Nashville, and Reinza J. (Calvin) Woods and great-nephew Jordan Richardson of Nashville and cousins: William R Cotton Jr., Deborah (Eddie) Yancey, Charles (Donetta) Cotton and a host of other cousins, relatives, neighbors and friends.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, March 30, 2024 at 12:00 noon at Westside Missionary Baptist Church, 4001 Hughes Ave. Chattanooga, with Rev. George Maize V. as the eulogist. The visitation will be held before the services from 10:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.
